What a "winning product" really is
A winning product isn't simply something that sells a lot. It's a product that balances six key dimensions:
- Demand — enough people searching and buying it (reviews, sales, search volume).
- Margin — after product cost, Amazon fees and shipping, you keep at least 25-35%.
- Competition — not dominated by huge brands with thousands of reviews.
- Trend — interest is rising or stable, not declining.
- Supplier — a reliable supplier with a reasonable MOQ exists.
- Scalability — you can build a private label and earn repeat purchases.
Step 1: Measure real demand (not gut feeling)
The #1 beginner mistake is picking products they "like". Demand is measured with data: review count (a reliable sales proxy on Amazon), sales rank (BSR) and search volume. As a rule of thumb, a product with hundreds of reviews and a 4.2+ rating has proven demand.
Step 2: Calculate the margin before you fall in love
The selling price is NOT your profit. Subtract: supplier cost (≈25-55% of the selling price depending on the category), Amazon fees (~15%), shipping and, if you use FBA, storage fees. If the net margin drops below 20%, the product is risky.
Step 3: Analyze the competition
Look for the sweet spot: enough proven demand but no dominant brands. If the top results have 10,000+ reviews, entering will be very expensive. If nobody has reviews, there may be no real demand. Ideal: competitors with hundreds (not thousands) of reviews.

Step 4: Validate the trend
A product with a good score but a declining trend is a trap. Make sure interest is stable or growing. Beware of seasonality: a Christmas product looks amazing in December and dies in January.
Step 5: Confirm a good supplier exists
Before committing, confirm there are suppliers with Trade Assurance, a low MOQ and good ratings. A winning product is useless if you can't source it reliably. (Read our guide on how to find reliable suppliers on Alibaba.)
How Soldnova does this in seconds
Doing this manually for each product takes hours. Soldnova gives you the objective part in seconds: whether the product sells, and at what price. Using the official eBay API it gives you, for any search, eBay's own estimated units sold (cumulative), the best-selling listing with its price, the observed price range of active listings (median and P25–P75) and how many listings compete. On top of that: a catalog of 7,000+ observed listings from eBay and Amazon with their current price, an explorer that breaks a category into product types ranked by market gap, and direct sourcing links to Alibaba, AliExpress, 1688 and DHgate. Sales figures are eBay estimates, not an exact count: they are for comparing products and ruling out the ones nobody buys, not for projecting your revenue.
