How to find reliable suppliers on Alibaba (without scams)

By the Soldnova team · Updated May 2026 · 6 min read

You found a winning product. Now comes the part where many people lose money: choosing the supplier. Alibaba is full of excellent manufacturers, but also middlemen and scammers. This guide teaches you exactly what to check to find reliable suppliers and protect your investment.

Check a product's estimated demand — eBay's estimated units sold, observed active-listing prices and competition.

Explore a category by estimated demand — product types ranked by an estimated market gap based on official eBay signals.

1. Prioritize the "Trade Assurance" badge

Trade Assurance is Alibaba's guarantee that protects your payment if the supplier fails to meet quality or deadlines. It's the most important trust signal. Never place a large first order with a supplier that doesn't offer it.

2. Check the years on the platform

A supplier with 3+ years on Alibaba (a "Gold Supplier" badge with seniority) has survived the scrutiny of thousands of buyers. Suppliers with less than 1 year are a medium risk: don't rule them out, but vet them more carefully.

3. Evaluate the MOQ (minimum order quantity)

A low MOQ (50-200 units) lets you test the product without risking much capital. If the MOQ is 1,000+ units, negotiate or find another supplier for your first test order.

4. Verify certifications

For regulated categories (electronics, toys, health products), require certifications like CE, RoHS, FDA or ISO 9001. Selling without them can get your Amazon account suspended.

5. Risk flags to avoid

6. Always request samples

Before a bulk order, request samples from 2-3 different suppliers and compare them. The cost of samples is the best investment to avoid a bulk order of thousands of defective units.

How Soldnova speeds up this part

Let us be precise about what the tool does: Soldnova does not vet suppliers for you — verifying Trade Assurance, samples and certificates is on you, with the checklist above, and there is no shortcut. What it does give you are direct search links for your product on Alibaba, AliExpress, 1688 and DHgate, pre-built with the useful filters, and above all the number that decides whether sourcing is worth your time at all: how much that product sells and at what real price. Using the official eBay API it gives you, for any search, eBay's own estimated units sold (cumulative), the best-selling listing with its price, the observed price range of active listings (median and P25–P75) and how many listings compete. On top of that: a catalog of 7,000+ observed listings from eBay and Amazon with their current price, an explorer that breaks a category into product types ranked by market gap, and direct sourcing links to Alibaba, AliExpress, 1688 and DHgate. Sales figures are eBay estimates, not an exact count: they are for comparing products and ruling out the ones nobody buys, not for projecting your revenue.
